Renee Vermeulen, Facilitator

Renee obtained an engineering degree at the University of Pretoria and started her career in 1998 in the steel industry as a metallurgical engineer. She joined the procurement team as a technical advisor to the cross functional commodity teams, after which she managed several cross-functional commodity teams. Reneé has more than 10 years of experience in developing sourcing strategies, and measurement tools for a wide variety of commodities including the energy sector. Dealing with energy and raw materials, environmental considerations played a major role in being able to optimise these commodities and during her career. Reneé also specialised in the environmental field representing SAISI at DNA workgroup regarding Climate change, Kyoto protocol and the CDM Mechanism in Belgium, and currently completing a Masters degree in environmental management. Reneé’s unique mix of experience in both operational management (as plant manager for various industrial plants) and strategic sourcing, (commodity manager managing commodity portfolios with values of more than R1.2 billion rand per annum) gives her a great understanding of the value of effective cross functional cost management in optimising production and business processes enabling triple bottom line sustainability.
